There's a long-running joke that Americans will measure things in anything except the metric system. Football fields. Bald eagles. Bananas, for scale. No More Metric takes the joke to its logical conclusion: a converter that only answers in freedom units.

Are the numbers real?

Yes, roughly. Every unit is based on a real, typical size, which you'll see under every answer ("assuming one giraffe is 17 ft tall"). Real giraffes, school buses and Thanksgiving turkeys vary, so treat every answer as approximately accurate.

Fan-made units

Anyone can submit a unit from the home page. We check each one before it goes live, so it may take a little while to appear.
